Its always gratifying when your work gets recognised. In the mystical world of the blogosphere, where, generally speaking, common ownership of information is the norm, its becoming increasingly rare for blogs, websites or the media in general to recognise the source of their facts and statistics.

We're all guilty of this to varying degrees, perhaps we read an article and post it in our own words, or quote a line or two without the proper accreditation - or even chop a couple of pieces together to create your own article.

Though this is all well and good and most bloggers are more than happy to share their insights, its a generally accepted, though unwritten rule that you should always, wherever practical, 'quote your source'.

A good case in point involves some of the blogs that run through this network.

If you've been reading Big Blog Media for a while, you'll know that some of our most popular blogs are Football (soccer) fan sites.
The 'Daddy' of them all is FC Barcelona Blog, a very well-informed site that goes to tremendous lengths to cover every aspect of Barcelona Football Club's progress. The bloggers are based in Barcelona and always looking out for a 'scoop', so as a result, they occasionally get to the 'big story' before the mainstream press. The press then use the information, sometimes quoting the site verbatim.

However, every once in a while, one of the 'Big Boys' demonstrates a little decency and lets us know where the news came from. For a little blog, this is always good as the blogger suddenly finds that s/he is getting lots more hits and this, in turn, increases her/his audience, so everybody wins.

Such is the case with Soccer Egypt, a dedicated Egyptian football site that's been online for a mere 6 weeks.

The guys at Soccer Egypt have worked very hard to cover their subject area and the site has taken off very nicely. A week ago, they reported that Tizie, the Ivory Coast goalkeeper being targetted by Egyptian club, Masri (click here to go to the article).
A couple of days ago, Goal.com, one of themore established soccer sites ran a similar article, based on the Soccer Egypt piece and had the decency to quote their source (click here for the Goal.com article). As a result, the site has seen a sudden surge in hits and they're obviously delighted.

The point is that very few bloggers are in it for the money - they do it because they are passionate about their subject matter. The guys at Soccer Egypt are no exception - they want to help the game they love to grow in their native country and see their blog as a viable tool. So far, they've done some sterling work and deserve to be commended.

Having said that, we at Big Blog Media would like to offer our thanks to Goal.com for showing that there's still a place for decency and ethics, even in today's cynical media.

Thanks Goal.com for doing the right thing
