With his third studio album, John Legend wanted to change his sound up, while not drifting too far from home. The album opens with an intro of one of its greatest songs “Good Morning”. The melodic piano keys mix with horns and Legend’s neo-soul voice produce a sound synonymous to previous albums, yet juxtaposed to some of the album’s more funky tracks.

“On Top of the World”, which features Ludacris is one of the few party anthems, “I used to dream oh whoah/ about the money and the cars and girls/ but now I sing oh whoah/ because I’m sitting on top of the world”, shows that these two, like most rappers, know how to brag of their riches…can’t hate um for that, can we? The album’s second single “Whatever You Like” which made a record leap to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 (before Britney’s Womanizer trumped it) features the artist exhibiting what would be some singing talent as he tells a lady “Go get it/ I’ll buy it/ Tell em other broke niggas be quiet”

"You dudes better follow instructions/ I said, 'Get up'”. Says Rapper 50 Cent in "Get Up" the first single off his upcoming album "Before I Self Destruct", which was released still only hours ago. Also, Rapper Kanye West who was on the Ellen Show yesterday, released the video for his NO. 3 on the Billboard 100 single "Love Lockdown". Ne-Yo – Year of the Gentleman – Ne-Yo

An Ordinary Joe here, with the Ordinary Joe Blog’s official review of Ne-Yo’s third studio album “Year of the Gentleman”

The album opens with Billboard Hot 100’s #7 track, first single “Closer”, “I just can’t stop/ I just can’t stop…” It seems Ne-yo is on a roll; being one of the biggest writers in the R&B World and moving full throttle with his own career.

Lyrical content, albeit the luxury it is in today’s musical world, can always be expected from Ne-Yo.
